Sacramento Rehab centers want to you know, ADHD’s role in addiction

The science of addiction is ever evolving. From year-to-year, new developments are made that help zone in on all of the variables that cause and perpetuate addiction. With most addiction, the root cause is not always what it seems. One of the latest findings is that those who suffer from ADHD are more likely to begin drug use two years before those who don’t. “The take-home message of this study shouldn’t be that children with ADHD are more likely to become drug users, Rather, seemingly ‘normal’ teenage behavior, such as experimenting with tobacco or alcohol use, may occur at younger ages for individuals with ADHD and so this might serve as a red flag for an accelerated gateway to illicit drug use.” said Eugene Dunne, the study’s lead author.
