With Heroin Use on the Rise, Detox in Sacramento is More Important Than Ever

"Heroin accounts for 17 percent of Sacramentans seeking treatment at county clinics. Heroin use is on the rise in many smaller cities throughout the United States, and Sacramento is no exception. Heroin is one of the most addictive substances and while it was once isolated to the low-income areas of larger cities, it is now commonplace throughout suburban, middle class and higher end areas. Along with the increase in drug addiction, the need for detox in Sacramento is also growing. There are various reasons for the increase in heroin use in Sacramento, and other areas. Many believe it has a lot to do with the abuse of prescription opiates such as OxyContin, Vicodin and Norcos. Often, when these drugs are abused people become addicted and aspire to reach a greater high. Because the high is similar to heroin, it can sometimes be used as an economic substitute.
