Alcohol Rehab in Sacramento on Linking Addiction with Suicide

Depression plays a part

Having an addiction is more than just not being able to say no to drugs – it is also about being so lost that sometimes suicide becomes too real of a thought. Additionally, research has found that people with substance use disorder are about six times more likely to commit suicide than anybody else. Although there have been many studies linking addiction with suicide, it is often unclear why this occurs. One theory could be that people with depressed tendencies are more likely to use drugs and alcohol as a means to sedate their emotions and anxiety. Drugs and alcohol may numb the pain for a short while, but due to their unpredictable side effects, reality can become skewed making irrational behavior come out and suicide a potential risk.
